B-Town is abuzz with the news that Karan Johar has bought the rights of National Award winning Malayalam film Adaminde Makan Abu (Abu, son of Adam) for close to 25 lakh.
According to reports, Karan will direct the film and it will star Shah Rukh Khan. The film is about the journey of an elderly Muslim couple trying to go to Haj and the problems they face. In the film the couple are grandparents but the Hindi version will be tweaked to suit SRK.
The original film was directed by debutant Salim Ahmed and starred Salim Kumar and Zarina Wahab in the lead roles. Salim Ahmed will also be a part of KJo's film.
Says an insider, After the success of My Name Is Khan nationally and globally, Shah Rukh and Karan want to do another Islam-centric film.
MNIK also picked up a lot of critical acclaim for them. Although Adaminde Makan Abu is a multi award-winning film, it wasn't a commercial success, but Karan will add his own touch to the film to ensure it connects with the audiences.
