Even as the nation strongly debates the issue of corruption, Rumy Jafry's Gali Gali Chor Hai produced by Nitin Manmohan throws its hat in.
Akshaye Khanna's character in the film is called Mr Bharat and represents the common man. Says director-writer Jafry, "The film depicts the common man's day-to-day life, a la the R K Laxman cartoons."
All is fine in Mr Bharat's world till he gets involved with the issue of exploitation and life takes an unprecedented turn. There begins the struggle to fight the virus plaguing society at large. Akshaye reveals, "Bharat is blissfully unaware of the goings-on in the country until he is caught in the system himself and is taken to a point of frustration. He then takes a stand and sets out to correct all the wrongs."
And just like its happening in the country where people stand united for the cause, it is collective action that comes to Bharat's rescue in the film, too. "It is only when everyone comes together to rescue Bharat, that the circle of corruption is broken." Rumy adds, "Corruption is a a vicious circle where you can't get rid of a situation. Though the plot is peppered with humour, it will also make people think about the issue seriously."Gali Gali Chor Hai releases February 3.
