Ranveer Singh edges out Hrithik, Ranbir

For months, there has been speculation over who will play the lead role in the Hindi remake of the 2009 Telugu hit Magadheera.

Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor were two names that were constantly doing the rounds. However, sources confirm that the role has actually gone to Ranveer Singh.

Negotations with the Band Baaja Baraat actor were on for some time and finally he has signed on to play the role of a warrior. The remake rights of the film have gone to producer Vikas Bahl and director Anurag Kashyap, who've finally clinched the deal.

As a part of the preparation for the role, Singh will undergo intense physical training. He has already watched the original and plans to bring something new to the table. He also plans to interact with Ram Charan, who played the lead in the original, to get some valueable inputs. Magadheera is a historic love story. Set against the backdrop of 17th century India, the film is said to have an estimated budget of ` 50 crore.

Confirming this, Vikas Bahl says, "Magadheera is a passion project for us, and we are excited to have the rights to re-create this magical piece of work. Ranveer is the best thing that could have happened to it. He has all the ingredients to be a passionate lover, a warrior and an entertainer, all at the same time. All the fans of Magadheera are coming together to recreate its magic with the support of Allu Aravind, the producer of the original film."
