He may be the son of Indian film industry's most venerated star, but it will take more than that for the Lucknow airport staff to countAbhishek Bachchan among India's VIPs.
On Monday, high drama accompanied Abhishek's exit from Lucknow when his security guards got into an argument with the airport officials over a minor issue. While waiting for their flight to Mumbai, Abhishek and his crew, along with co-actor Neil Nitin Mukesh were escorted to the VIP lounge on their arrival at the airport by the CISF personnel. But just when they were made comfortable there, they were asked to vacate the lounge.
Airport Director, Atul Dixit, tells us of what actually took place there. According to him, Bachchan and his guards entered the VIP lounge at the airport without any official permission from the terminal manager at the airport. "The CISF had made them sit in the VIP lounge without informing the airport authorities. The guards travelling with the team had virtually seized the VIP lounge. Even the airport officials were denied entry into the lounge. The airport duty manager, RK Srivastava, questioned stars' presence there, as the VIP lounge is meant for only a special category of people, which incidently does not include film stars, and subsequently requested the guards have Abhishek Bachchan make an entry into the register which is kept there for record purposes. But his guards refused to do the needful, at which he told them categorically to either make an entry in the register, or vacate the lounge. Meanwhile, Abhishek Bachchan on hearing the commotion came out and specified that he had been escorted to the VIP lounge by the airport security. And then he shifted to the arrival lounge of the airport along with Neil Nitin Mukesh and their team."
