Dirty Picture continues to overpower new releases

While the new releases 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' and 'Jo Hum Chahein' remained dull at box-office, 'The Dirty Picture' continued to mint money even in its third week.

Both releases of this Friday have failed to set the cash registers ringing. And like we predicted last week, this could just be the lull before the storm - with Don 2 releasing next week. Vinay Pathak seems to be losing his USP in the small-budget independent cinema zone with most of his recent releases from Bheja Fry 2, Chalo Dilli, Tere Mere Phere biting the dust. Pappu Paas Ho Gaya is no exception. While the film starts off interestingly, it loses track in second half. Vinay Pathak hasn't been able to revive the magic (and success) of Bheja Fry or Dasvidaniya

The other release Jo Hum Chahein starring newcomers Sunny Gill and Simran Kaur Mundi (ex-Miss India) lacked face-value. And so boring was the film that a poor opening was inevitable.

Both the earlier week's release Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and The Dirty Picture earned around Rs 5 crore. But while The Dirty Picture earned it in its third weekend, Ladies vs Ricky Bahlearned that in its second weekend. Thereby Vidya Balan's film is clearly overpowering all other recent releases and continues to mint money.

Now all eyes are set on Shah Rukh Khan's Don 2 which releases this Friday. Expectations are huge from the film and Don 2 should ideally bring the year 2011 to an apt end.
