Karan Johar, Anil Thadani: Friends in deed

Karan Johar and Raveena Tandon's husband Anil Thadani are childhood friends. And now the two friends are building a professional relationship as well.

Anil has acquired the all-India theatrical rights of KJo's next opus Agneepath, starring Hrithik RoshanPriyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt. This decision comes as a surprise since Karan Joharafter parting professionally with Yash Raj Films, has always trusted UTV for the distribution of his projects.

A source from the industry revealed, "Everything is fine between KJo's company Dharma Productions and UTV. In the recent past UTV sold the theatrical rights to different people. Now, they have sold it entirely to Thadani. It's a structured deal. Of course, KJo was kept in the loop. That's the only difference. Yes, it was expected that Agneepath would follow the same route but then everything can't remain the same forever. The modalities worked out well for Thadani."

KJo and Anil went to the same college - HR college in Churchgate. They are frequently in touch. KJo trusts Anil a lot. What tilted the scales in Anil's favour is perhaps the way he handled MilanLuthria's The Dirty Picture, produced by Ekta Kapoor who is also KJo's close friend.

While the money that Anil had to shell out is still not known, the deal in question was routed through UTV. Revealed the source, ""Anil signed the deal only on Wednesday afternoon."

When contacted, Apoorva Mehta (CEO, Dharma Productions) confirmed that now Anil Thadani would be in charge of the all-India theatrical rights of Agneepath. "Eros International holds the overseas rights," he added.
