Anna Hazare in Bollywood?
Manish Gupta, the director of 'Hostel', is working on a film titled 'Main Nahin Anna'
Anna Hazare is hogging the national headlines yet again for going on the warpath after attacking the government for keeping CBI out of the Lokpal Bill. With the nation debating over his contribution towards fighting corruption, tinsel town is now inspired to have characters like Anna Hazare. Sources say, director Manish Gupta is busy with the pre-production work of his next film that will have a character inspired by Anna.
Manish Gupta, who started his career as a scriptwriter for " Sarkar", made his directorial debut with "The Stoneman Murders", starring Kay Kay Menon and Arbaaz Khan. His last release - "Hostel" - explored the psychology of ragging and its disastrous effects on a student's psyche.
Says a source, "The film is based on a cop from Maharashtra. He is very honest but the system is such that it doesn't allow him to function that way despite his best intentions. The film has a social activist whose mission in life to is ensure a corruption-free India. He goes on fasts and is also a target of some political parties for speaking his mind.
Though the cop is, at times, inspired by the anti-corruption crusader, he suffers from his own sense of dilemma because of the system he has to operate in. The pre-production work for the film is under progress and if all goes well, the shooting should begin in Maharashtra sometime in January." On his social networking site, Gupta had posted: "I'm lukng fr a decent-lookng male actor aged between 28-35 yrs, to play th MAIN LEAD in my nxt film.
Actors with theatre experienc wil b gvn prefernc. Intense acting skills r a must. (sic)" However, when BT got in touch with Gupta, the director refused to comment on his movie now.
Though it's unlikely that Anna would be knowing about this film yet, the crusador had a tryst with movies during his recent Chennai visit.
Last Sunday, Anna watched A Balakrishnan's Tamil film titled "Mudhalvar Mahatma" which explores a storyline where Mahatma Gandhi is shown as the chief minister of a state in the present-day scenario. Incidentally, Anna watched the movie in a theatre after 41 years.
