No paternity leave for Abhishek Bachchan!

Reports of Abhishek Bachchan taking paternity leave for wife Aishwarya haven't gone down well with the daddy-to-be.

A source close to Abhishek says, "It's an action packed year for Abhishek, who is currently shooting for Bol Bachchan with Asin, followed byDhoom 3 in November.

Abhishek has not asked for paternity leave. He is a committed professional and will not inconvenience anyone. Abhishek is sticking to the dates he's committed for all his films. The Dhoom 3 schedule will be followed by the promotions of Players and Abhi is gung-ho about it!"

Leander Paes loses his voice

Leander Paes' fans will finally get to see him on screen. However, they'll not hear him in the filmRajdhani Express. Director Ashok Kohli has decided to get Leander's voice dubbed by another actor.

Kohli admitted, "We decided to get his voice dubbed by actor Amitosh Nagpal. Leander has a very strong English accent, when he speaks Hindi. This would not go well with the character he plays. However, that's not the only reason. Leander is also abroad most of the time and waiting for him to dub would delay the film by months."

Though Leander is unaware of his voice being dubbed, Kohli denied any conflict with the tennis star. "Our agreement clearly stated that the final call on dubbing rests with us. However, if Leander wants to try it out, we would readily agree," added Kohli.

New India, Free India

Kudos to people like Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal and all those who are fighting for the Lokpal bill, they have in true sense kept the term ‘democracy’ alive in our Country. My heart bleeds out for the poor 73 year old Anna Hazare, as he had to go on a hunger strike to put forth his admonition. We here, sitting in our UV protected glass houses call ourselves ‘The greatest democracy ever’, when half of us are not even aware of the Bill. For all those who aren’t aware about it, the Jan Lokpal bill was introduced in 1968 by Shanti Bhushan. It was first passed in Lok Sabha in 1969, but before it could be passed in Rajya Sabha, it was dissolved. The subsequent versions were re-introduced in the preceding years, but none of them passed. Today, because of the persistence of these freedom fighters(cause that is exactly what they are for me), the bill has gone to the second standing committee. This is the first step towards victory. Am glad we are finally getting up from our ‘chalta hai’ attitude and doing something concrete for our nation. For all those who still don’t care about what’s happening, wake up, feel the new India, free India.

Lucky charm Salman for 'Luv U Soniyo'

Director Atul Agnihotri attaches nephew's promo to Bodyguard, while Salman Khan picks the other promo to go with the film

Most producers consider Salman Khan's films lucky and doggedly pursue the star to attach the promos of their upcoming films to his. However, only two promos have been okayed to accompanyBodyguard - Dharma Productions' Agneepath and Joe Rajan's Luv U Soniyo. Both choices were made for sentimental reasons.

Salman is fond of Karan Johar and Hrithik Roshan, and hence was happy to showcase their film's trailer. The second film stars Rati Agnihotri's son Tanuj Virwani (also Bodyguard producer Atul Agnihotri's cousin) who is making his debut in the film. A source reveals, "Atul was quite impressed with Luv U Soniyo's promo. He even complimented Tanuj on his debut."

Director Joe Rajan confirms, "Atul has been very kind. To have our promo attached with Bodyguard is a big deal. We know what a big hit Bodyguard will be and there was no better opportunity for Luv U Soniyo's promo to be showcased than in Salman's movie."

Om Puri regrets remarks on politicians

Actor Om Puri has apologised for calling politicians "uneducated" and "incompetent" during his speech in Ramlila Maidan late and says his choice of words was inappropriate.

"I respect the parliament and the costitutional body. I am very proud to be an Indian. It was wrong on my part to use such terms. I wasn't drunk, I was just emotionally charged, such things do come from mouth.....even our politicians at times, in a fit of anger, use such things," Om told CNN-IBN.

"I would love to be there (in the parliament) to explain my emotions... the forum which leaders like Sardar Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru have been a part of. If they (parliament) are still angry with me I will take whatever punishment they give me," the actor added.

The 60-year-old actor created a stir Friday with his speech attacking politicians. He told the thousands gathered that he feels "ashamed when an IAS or IPS officer salutes a ganwar (illiterate) who is a neta (political leader)".

"Yeh anpadh hain, inka kya background hai? Aadhe se zyaada MP ganwaar hain...," the well known actor said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said she is considering a privilege motion against Om for his "derogatory and defamatory" remarks.

Check out Shah Rukh's pony tail

Not so long ago he looked super skinny, but nowShah Rukh Khan is looking uber cool.. and hot!

The pony tail is back and we approve. And he's so hot that he seems to be emanting heat, which is bursting through his shirt. We couldn't help notice the sweat stains but only for a moment. Then we got distracted by that smile.

I believe in clutter-breaking

I am not going to become a critical-acclaim-junkie at all. I will not start falling for the bait of wanting to please people ever. I will do it the way I always do, with my gut. I cater to a viewer because that viewer's taste matters more than anyone else's and I will keep him first in mind and then, if it also appeals to the critics, so be it.
On the other hand, it's a great feeling to be accepted by audiences that have never accepted you. With Love Sex Dhokha I was a bundle of nerves. I think it will take some time before everything sinks in. It was the first time I have got critical acclaim for any of my films.
Titles like the ‘Most Influential South Asian Women Executives in the Media and Entertainment Industry 2010' don’t shake me. Of course it makes me proud that my name was listed among such great women. It was truly an honour. South Asia is quite huge and to be selected among so many people feels great but I think I am a bit too individualistic. I try to lead. I do not follow. Even if I don't lead, I would follow my own path. I don't believe in being branded...I believe in clutter-breaking.
If that works for people, great. If it doesn't, great. I'd rather make my own mistakes and pay for them rather than pay for mistakes that are formulistic.

Mallika Sherawat gets 'wet and wild'

Sexy siren Mallika Sherawat is back in action.

In the latest pictures from the movie 'Politics Of Love', Mallika is seen washing her car, all wet and drenched in soap. Needless to say that Mallika is looking super hot in the sultry attire. Politics Of Love, is a Hollywood rom-com, which was initially titled Love, Barack. The movie is based on the 2008 presidential elections.

No Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh for Sonakshi Sinha

Actress Sonakshi Sinha says she has neither signed a film with superstar Shah Rukh Khan or with actor Ranveer Singh.

"I haven't signed any film with Shah Rukh Khan. I had also read the news somewhere but I haven't signed any film yet," Sonakshi told reporters at Ambience Mall, where she had come to launch the new range of Puma running shoes.

Rumours were abuzz that Sonakshi has been cast opposite King Khan in Abhinav Kashyap's next, a love story set in Australia.

Reports also suggested that the 24-year-old has been roped in star with actor Ranveer Singh in Yash Raj's new film. Sonakshi denied this too, saying she is "not doing any film with Ranveer".

Meanwhile, one-film old Sonakshi is on cloud nine after having six films in pipeline. She is shooting for Shirish Kunder's "Joker" and is about to start shooting for "Rowdy Rathore", both of which stars Akshay Kumar.

She then as "Race 2" and "Son of Sardar". She is also doing "Dabangg 2" and "Kick" with Salman Khan.

Sanjay Dutt to host an Iftaar party

Sanjay Dutt is holding an iftaar party today evening for the children of the technicians of B-Town.

The President of the Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) Dharmesh Tiwari says, "We have started an initiative called Basera which gives financial help to the technicians of the film industry, including retired workers like ex-dancers, fighters, lightmen, spot boys and their children.

Sometimes, these include paying the children's school fees also in the form of cheques. We asked Sanju baba if he could do something this time and he decided to hold an Iftaar party for all the workers and their children. He will be distributing 200 food packets to the technicians and children attending the event. Basera is in its 45th month and we even provide medical facilities to the workers and their children. It was wonderful of Sanju baba to host an Iftaar party for us this year."

Advance drama for Bodyguard

Even though the Salman Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer " Bodyguard" is keenly anticipated this Eid, it seems that the advance bookings for the movie haven't exactly seen the kind of start that Salman and producer Atul Agnihotri had imagined.

On Sunday, advance for the movie opened only at PVR and single screens in the country, but at no other multiplex. The reason yet again was the breakdown in discussions between the distributor, Reliance Entertainment, and the Multiplex Association of India (MAI). While the multiplex chains are trying to get the movie and open advance bookings at the terms agreed upon a fortnight ago, the distributors are trying to push through a multi-film deal for an English movie release along with "Bodyguard" and at new terms.

A source tells us, "Everywhere in the country, at all the multiplexes, advances have been put on hold. Reliance is trying to push through a multi-film deal. They are saying that you also ensure release for our forthcoming English films, and are asking for new terms. It is only then that they will they give "Bodyguard" for release to the multiplexes. This is in breach of the agreement that was done between MAI and the Producers Guild a fortnight ago for terms for Hindi movies. Even though the agreement was done verbally at that time, everyone had agreed to the new terms and that agreement is being worked out now. But the distributors for "Bodyguard" are suggesting their own deal now."

And the buzz in trade circles is that Salman and Atul are both unhappy with the development since they were expecting advances to open on Sunday. Adds the source, "Even though Salman is traditionally thought of as a single screen hero, the truth is that no one can ignore multiplexes, especially after the business that they had generated for "Dabangg"." Producer Atul Agnihotri said, "I'm only concerned with the promotions and not distribution. You should ask the distributors about this. I have got reports about advance opening at places like Delite from Delhi. And negotiations always happen between the two parties. I don't have any more info on this." However, the news is that Mukesh Bhatt is mediating between the distributor and the exhibitors for the movie to release without any hassels.

Utpal Acharya, head, acquisition and distribution for Reliance Entertainment, says, "We have a commercial agreement, under which I am exercising my distribution strategy. This simply means that under the agreement, they can choose the total number of shows they want to give a movie, while I can choose which all locations I want the movie to play at. There is a problem in that that these guys have. We also have some past issues of financial clearance with them and we were not happy with the way they showcased"Singham". We want "Bodyguard" to release in each and every theatre, and are still open to negotiations."

According to a source, other multiplexes too have opened advance bookings. Till Sunday night only PVR had opened advance bookings. Wave and INOX may open bookings in some hours, but DT Cinemas, Satyam have not and they haven't signed the movie yet.

I had a beautiful wedding: Celina Jaitley

Jaitley talks about her hush-hush wedding to Peter Haag in an exclusive to TOI

Celina Jaitley got married to her longtime partner Peter Haag on July 23 in a quiet wedding inAustria, as his grandmother is seriously ill and wanted to see them married.

Says Celina, "We had a beautiful court ceremony at a spectacular 1,000-year-old monastery in Austria. Peter selected the venue; It's one of the oldest monasteries in the world. The court judge came specifically for this grand ceremony and gave a touching sermon, followed by a beautiful champagne lunch."

Celina says it wasn't a traditional church wedding. "However, It was definitely magical. We are planning a reception to celebrate this important occasion in our lives. It was an intimate affair attended by very close family members only. Since my parents couldn't make it due to last minute visa challenges, Peter's father gave me away during the ceremony."

What did she wear? "I am Indian and wearing a saree was a personal decision. My dearest friend Rahuul Jashnani flew in this vintage, royalty inspired chiffon saree decorated with gold mukaish especially for the wedding. My Prince Charming and his father went out of their way to make it the most magical moment of my life. I had a beautiful wedding amidst the sunshine of the Austrian mountains and under the high arches of a place that has never had a wedding before. Most importantly, with the right person, my Prince Peter. It was a wedding beyond my wildest dreams,"says Celina.

Talking about her future plans Celina says, "Marriage is the same for me as it is for any other girl. It is just another step towards embracing my womanhood. I have no intentions at all of leaving my work. I will live in Mumbai and travel between Dubai (where Peter works in the hospitality industry) and Mumbai."

I'm just an actor, Messi is a Rockstar: Ranbir Kapoor

God of Football Lionel Messi is coming to play a friendly match with his Argentinian team at Kolkata on September 2. B-Town actors are super excited and most of them who are planning to go and watch the match, may get lucky to meet Messi.

Not just that. All feel, that India should get more such international football stars to encourage the growth of football as a sport in India.

Ranbir Kapoor
I'm just an actor, Messi is a Rockstar. I'm counting the days to being able to see him play here in India. I am doing my best to clear the decks to go and watch Argentina play in Kolkata. It bothers me hugely that even with a huge population we don't play this beautiful game as well as so many other countries. More visits by international football stars, I hope, will inspire kids here. If I wasn't an actor, I would have played professional football. Or atleast struggled to get into the team.

Abhishek Bachchan
Messi is one of the best players in the world. And the Argentinian team is a very exciting team to watch. It's wonderful that FIFA is looking to India as a football friendly country. There's a lot of wonderful footballing talent in our country and I believe that football will be the next big sport here after cricket. I would have loved to go and watch the match and meet Messi too, but I am shooting in Jaipur so I can't attend.

John Abraham
I am very excited that Messi is coming to India. He is by far the best footballer in the world and it will be great to have him here. It's important to get international players like Messi to India as his visit will encourage the youth to play football more.Unfortunately, I won't be able to go for the match as I am shooting.

Sunil Shetty
My son Ahaan is a huge fan of Messi. It's great today we are getting international footballers like him to India. After watching Messi play, 100 children will want to play football. India is a huge developing market for football now. According to some kids today, football is more of a team event than cricket.

Sohail Khan
Messi is undoubtedly the best today. Kids need heroes to follow, apart from in life. In football Messi is the biggest. It's lovely that he is coming down to India. I would love to meet him.

Vivek Oberoi
Football is a great sport that is always relegated to the back of the priority line because of the focus on cricket in india. These kind of sporting events and visiting icons like Messi will capture the imagination of young Indians and give a boost to football in India. I wish I could meet Messi and get a soccer ball autographed for my nephew who loves football and is a messi fan. It all depends on my shooting schedules, I am just keeping my fingers crossed.

Ranveer Singh
I am super excited and would have loved to meet him, but unfortunately I will be shooting. It gives the youth a chance to see and meet their idol which is always great. It not only helps in the betterment of the game but also in the betterment of the youth and society in general. These kind of things spread positivity through the joy of sports.

Dino Morea
I have been invited by the Kolkata Football Association to go watch the match where Messi will be playing. So yes, I am there, watching him live. I definitely feel more international players should be brought down as that will inspire more youngsters to get involved with the sport.

Salman Khan postpones his US trip by a day

Actor Salman Khan, who was supposed to leave for the US Saturday for treatment of a medical condition causing acute pain in his head, cheeks and jaws, postponed his trip to Sunday for an undisclosed reason.
Denying a media report that he has postponed it due to Hurricane Irene that has hit the US East Coast, his manager said that it had nothing to do with the hurricane. "He was supposed to leave last night he is leaving tonight (Sunday). He has nothing to do with the hurricane and he just postponed it for a day " Salman's manager told.
In medical parlance, Salman is suffering from trigeminal neuralgia and aneurysm for which he's going to the US. Salman had disclosed to media that the he had the first attack of pain in the left side of his face during the making of his film "Partner" (2007) and the pain came back while he was shooting for "Veer" (2010). He is continuously suffering from this pain since last year.

There is no comeback: Karisma

Someone meeting her after a long hiatus will probably not see much change in her - still very petite, slim, glowing with good health.

That's Karisma Kapur, the 37-year-old, not seen in Bollywood films for the last five years. Lolo's been in the news for the past month or so - what with a much talked about 'comeback' in Vikram Bhatt's "Dangerous Ishq"... or is it going to be a reprisal of Hema Malini's role in " Satte Pe Satta"? There's also supposed to be that sizzling item number in "Housefull 2" that she's apparently doing. Whatever it is, Karisma is not going to talk about it.

She was recently seen at an event in Delhi after a long time even though the actress is married to a Delhiite. But all those questions of 'what's up' and 'what's she doing' will have to wait a while, as Karisma clearly indicated. Her answer, to the question about the movie and her comeback, "I can't really talk much about the movie - it is pre-production. But obviously, I'm doing it because there was something in it that made me want to do it. This is something that I have not done till today - even though I've been able to do a variety of roles. So this was something that I felt would take me and my acting to the next level. It deals with intrigue and past life regression - something mystical - a subject that has become greatly interesting to everyone today."

Any comeback jitters? "Pardon me, there is no such word as comeback in my dictionary. What is the meaning of comeback? Please tell me. Who has kids here? She looks up, searching in the bunch of those assembled for a raised hand, and finally spots one. Did you make a comeback when you got back to work after having babies and taking maternity leave?" There's a shake of the head. "Similarly, I would like to say for an actress, we are just like any other women out there - just as ordinary and as normal as everyone else. We can go on maternity leave, take a sabbatical and come back to work. There is no comeback. This term needs to be abolished from the lives of actresses."

And what about item numbers? Can she still beat 'em all when it comes to shaking a leg? Is she open to item numbers? "Well, obviously, if I have come back to work again," she begins, and pauses to think, but that moment is pushed back by another intruding question from the media, someone wants to know the secret of her 'looking so young'. "Eating a lot of almonds," she laughs, "It is something that has come down to us through generations. A sort of hand-me-down, that and surprisingly, having desi ghee as well," says Karisma.

And what about the audience perception of her? Her sister Kareena has taken sexy to a size-zero level and back, while she was bringing up kids. How is she going to compete with that? Without missing a beat, Karisma answers, "I'd like to say that this whole fitness thing kind of started in the film industry because of me - because of my role in "Dil Toh Pagal Hai". We had that very sporty look, that fit body, tight clothes, the whole Shiamak Davar dancing - it kind of came about - the transition happened from there. So, I am happy that my sister has taken it forward, taken it to another level."

Shekhar Kapur: Woke to a new dawn, a new freedom and saw a distant star of hope shining brighter and closer to every Indian heart. Anna can now rest as nation's youth have heeded his call. 64 years of system will not change overnight so we need to be vigilant. Anna's greatest achievement is to show the people of India that they can take charge of their own destiny.

It's good to have critics in life: Rani Mukherji

Rani Mukherji happily embraces criticism because she believes it helps show the right path in life.
"I believe it's very good to have critics in your life because there are certain things that you might be doing wrong and it's nice to have people to show you the right path," Rani said on Zoom's show "Superstar Weekends".
Last seen in " No One Killed Jessica", Rani is currently busy shooting for Reema Kagti's untitled film with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

Hollywood does not fascinate me: Imran Khan

Actor Imran Khan says it like it is. Aamir's nephew has no qualms in admitting that he is not fascinated by Hollywood.

In a chat with TOI, Imran revealed, "Its very important to understand the sensibility and culture of the film industry you work in. American films are made for an American audience and thus it will always be difficult for Indians to not get stereotyped in those films. I definitely don't intend to play a scientist or a taxi driver in Hollywoodfilms. I'd rather give my all to Hindi films. I understand this culture and it will always give me a better platform than anything else."

As much as we'd like to agree with you Imran, this all seems a tad unbelievable, considering you happen to be an American citizen.

Akshay Kumar's tribute to Punjabis

After the roles that Akshay Kumar has played in recent films, he has created quite a strong Punjabi connection with his audience.

The actor, who has Punjabi roots, has always wanted to pay a tribute to Singhs around the world for their sherdil. Akshay's latest song, where he is rapping, is a promotional one for his film Speedy Singhs
He shot this special song Shera Di Kaum Punjabi, withGrammy award winner Ludacris and RDB, a pop Punjabi trio. This rap number, composed by Ludacris and RDB, has recently released and is quite a hit with partygoers.

On Akshay's experience of working with international artists, a source reveals, "It was an exciting experience for Akshay to collaborate with Ludacris for the music video. Akshay is always looking for opportunities to work with great artists from across the globe. He has made several films in the past, but this will be his first Hollywood film as a producer. He will not be acting in the film though."

I've punched a fan in the face: Kajol

Fiery, feisty Kajol. A brand by herself. A firebrand. Yet one of the best ever.

Here she confesses how she pinched a kid, punched a fan in the face, whistled during Singham - and was, well, essentially Kajol. All day long, on zoOm Superstar Weekends. Keep watching...

Looking good after baby no. 2. How was motherhood this time around?
Oh, completely different actually. I met a lot more people than I did the last time. The last time, I just locked myself at home and didn't meet too many people. But this time, I was working till I was six months pregnant and I then got back to work two-three months after Yug was born. I've really been out and about this pregnancy!

Recently, Ajay advised Kareena and Saif to not get married in an interview! Your comment?
I take it as advice that he has given, not something that he's practising, thank God. Haha!

Did you enjoy Singham?
OMG! I loved it! I screamed, I shouted, I ceetee maroed and everything... I had a blast. And mind you, I didn't watch it at a single screen. I watched it at a special screening and we went in looking all classy. Five minutes into the movie, everybody was screaming, clapping and whistling! It was fabulous.

Was it you who gave Ajay the Marathi tips?
Not really, but I've been training him for the past 15 years (laughs); so something should rub off na?

Are you working on your personal website? What will it have?
I don't have the time or the energy to join 100 different networking sites, so an official website would be one way of talking to my fans. Basically to voice something; or put yourself up as how you see yourself rather than what everybody else sees you as.

And what do you see yourself as?
I see myself as a good person most of the times, a bitch sometimes (laughs); but I like myself as a person. I respect myself. It's a little bit of everything.

You use that B-word for yourself. I doubt you can really be that, do you?
Not really, but there is a little streak of meanness in me that I think is there in most people, which they deny. I am mean, I'm nasty at times. I don't feel like talking to people at times. When I am in a bad mood and have had a really awful day, don't come in my face because I am not tolerant and I am not a goddess, I can't handle it after a point. I am going to get up and I am going to scream and I am going to say bad things to you.

What's the meanest thing you've done?
I've punched a fan in the face because he was obnoxious. I've also pinched a child and made him cry, but I was 10 then!

Seven Sins Check

Are you guilty of Lust?
I hope so, I have two children. I sure as hell hope so (laughs)!

Gluttony. One food item that you cant resist.
There is no one thing. Especially when you are on a diet. Ooof!

Greed. Have you ever done a role for money?
No, I haven't.

Anger. One person who has angered you the most.
I have a lot of road rage. Mostly with the rickshaw and cab drivers trying to cut me, it's the traffic. Grrrr!

Envy?
I don't envy anybody, touch wood.

Pride. Do you think pride is a sin?
No not at all. It's a trait that should be put into people. Most of the population in our country don't have enough of it.

Sloth: Are you guilty of it?
I'd love sloth. I wish sloth would come home and visit me once in a while. I don't consider laziness a sin at all.

I didn't want to hurt anyone: Rakhi Sawant

Rakhi Sawant doesn't have any qualms in speaking her mind. And she says she is content about the fact that she doesn't have to mince words to impress people.
At least, she has the courage to speak what she believes in. When we asked Rakhi about a complaint that Manoj Karwasra, an activist lodged with SP, Hisar against her for speaking against Team Anna, she said, "My intention wasn't to hurt anyone. And if people are hurt with my opinion (she had referred to Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and Prashant Bhushan as 'Kaliyug ke Rawan'), I apologise for it. But we belong to a democratic nation, so why should we not be allowed to speak what we believe in?" As Rakhi says, she was highly disappointed with the way people, who called themselves Anna supporters misbehaved with aamjuntaand cops. "How can people who call themselves Anna supporters attack cops? "I was upset when I heard this news. After all, I'm a cop's daughter. And my father never accepted money from anyone. If cops are behaving properly, why should they be attacked? This is what made me make that comment. People should not be influenced to do which is not correct.I believe we should be respectful towards the cops. It is because of them that we are able to live our lives peacefully."
Has it ever happened that she was asked by corrupt officials to pay a few extra bucks to get work done? "To be honest, it is the fear that works as a deterrent in my case. Kisi ki itni himmat haikiRakhi se paise maange. People know if they do any thing of this sort, I will raise my voice. That's how it should always be. We all need to drill that fear in people's minds to ensure we are not considered as vulnerable. Maine apne kaam ladke karwaein hain. I have never bribed anyone and I'm proud of it," she says. People certainly need to follow this, Rakhi!

Anushka and I have drifted apart: Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh talks about Anushka Sharma,Sonakshi Sinha, love and more...

For the last time, are you dating Anushka?
We are two young, attractive people. When people saw us going out and sharing wonderful chemistry, they speculated. The truth is, Anushka is a very good friend. We have drifted apart now unfortunately.

So you were not in love?
I was very attracted to her. I don't know if I've ever been in love. I don't know what love means. I have felt strong and deep emotions for people who are not related to me by blood. I don't know if that's love but yes, I've felt attraction and affection for Anushka.

Did you and Anushka split because she wanted to concentrate on her career?
No. We have drifted because we don't get to see each other as much as we used to. I think circumstances drove us apart. We worked together continuously for a year in Band Bajaa Baraat and saw each other everyday. Over a period of time we made common friends and hung out together going for dinners and movies. Now that our work is over, Anushka has forged her own path and signed on lots of movies. Now we don't meet each other at all.

Are you closer to Sonakshi now?
I do find Sonakshi very attractive, but we are not dating. I have met her many times and we share a healthy friendship. Right now I am single. I wouldn't mind if love comes along, but for the moment it's work over love.

Is Sonakshi a better friend or Anushka?
Anushka! I am much closer to her. We became very close over a period of time. I could talk to her about everything, because she went through the same process I was going through as a newcomer. We connected at that level.

Do you miss Anushka?
Yes, I miss her a lot. Anushka is the kind of girl you'll always miss, especially if she's been a part of your life and then suddenly isn't. You feel a void...

Are you a romantic person?
Yes. I am passionate, romantic and impulsive. For me, romance is when I go out of my comfort zone for someone and do anything for them. I have a few criteria I want in a girlfriend... good diction, personal hygiene and aesthetics. Her dressing sense and grooming should be nice and she should have radiant skin.

My Agneepath is a tribute to the original: Karan

KJo says reprising his father's 1990 classicAgneepath is an emotional decision

For Karan Johar, the 'business' of cinema is still an emotional one.

His decision to produce the young Karan Malhotra's Agneepath (2012) under his banner Dharma Productions is not based entirely on commerce. "I hope everyone feels as emotional about it as I do," says Karan, who will release a one-and-a-half-minute teaser of the film today. The film releases on January 13, 2012.

Minutes before the teaser was unveiled, KJo tells us, "There is so much curiosity about Agneepath, that's why I have released this teaser so much in advance. I want to put the curiosity to rest and let people know that this Agneepath is not a remake. It is a tribute to the original, with many new facets."

He reminds you that the 1990 version - produced by Yash Johar and directed by Mukul Anand - attained cult status. It's a film all of us at Dharma are emotional about. It may not have been a commercial success, but it is still one of Amit uncle's (Amitabh Bachchan) most popular films. When Karan (Malhotra) expressed a desire to make his version, all of us were more than happy. I know my father would have liked it this way."
Incidentally, the August 29 teaser precedes the theatrical trailer of Agneepath that will release with Ra.One this Diwali.

Agneepath has some old characters - like Vijay Dinanath Chauhan ( Hrithik Roshan) and Kancha (Sanjay Dutt) - and some new. The character being played by Rishi Kapoor was not a part of the original film. Even the Priyanka Chopra-Hrithik Roshan love story in the tribute has no resonance to the Madhavi-Amitabh track of the 1990 version. "In the teaser, you will see these four fantastic actors and superstars," he promises.

"`You will also notice that this version of Agneepath has a different texture, a different tonality. It is a readapted and re-energised version that will take people by surprise. The original had an ethos that was closer to the time (the 90s). This one will obviously be contemporary. Karan has paid a tribute to my father and Mukul, and I'm happy to stand by his side."

I had no money to eat at times: Manoj Bajpayee

... Says actor Manoj Bajpayee about his journey as an actor. There was a time when he'd do a role for a few thousand bucks, he recalls

Since your first movie, you've been tagged a serious actor. How do you react to that?
It really irks me. I take my roles very seriously and I do different kinds of roles, which my directors feel that only I am cut out to do. I don't know how you define serious roles. My character of Bhiku Mhatre was not serious. He evoked laughter. My character in "Zubeida" was not serious. He evoked romance. "Road" evoked suspicion. Yes, I haven't been part of a slapstick film, but that doesn't make me a serious actor. At times, I take it as a compliment. One of my director friends said that this serious actor tag is great because you are the best actor in the country. I would like to grab it with both hands.

But you cannot deny that your roles are not the conventional hero types...
I have done hero roles, but those roles were full of substance, like the ones in "Shool", "Pinjar", or "Zubeida". I never wanted to do the commercial hero roles because I was never convinced with those. After "Satya" I was offered such roles, but I refused them.

But people do those roles...
They do it because they are convinced about it. I was trained to become an actor; I am one today.

So you prefer being an actor and not a star?
My choice was to become a credible actor in this country, and God has gifted me that space.

The actor was recognised around the time "Tamanna" released. Before that, were there any moments of doubt?
I have been working now for 18 years, since 1993. You start questioning yourself and your abilities when you don't get work. So the time of struggle is very difficult, not just for me but for any actor, or any person who becomes a hero. For anybody, it's during the trying time that you need to keep your calm. That is the time when trouble hits you badly and it shakes your confidence. At times, I had my doubts about whether I could be a good actor, since people didn't seem convinced with what I thought I could do.

So at that time, did you consider doing roles that you were not convinced about?
Yes. I had to do a few TV series... just 3-4 episodes for just a thousand bucks per episode, since I didn't have money to eat and those were very bad times. Those moments are unnerving since you are compromising your beliefs for your needs, and hunger was my need at that time.

Did your dreams change at that time?
I thought I'd just manage my bread and butter. I knew I wanted to be a very big actor, but my initial days in Mumbai were not very inspiring and they put doubts in my mind. I did meagre roles so that I could manage my bread and butter. And that's how far I could think. And whenever I looked in the mirror, I thought this is not a face they would welcome in the industry. I was a very practical person. I never had any big ideas about myself. So, I never trained myself to be a hero. And since I've done hardcore theatre, I could never convince myself that I should be singing songs or doing things that I didn't believe in. That requires a very different journey. My journey has not been like that.

When did those trying times end?
After the "Swabhiman" series. It started giving me `2,000 per episode. You could find some money all the time in my wallet. That kind of eased me out a little bit.

So, what kind of needs do you compromise on now?
Needs have no end, and you can't make compromises for them now. But I try to consciously cut down on many things. Like just now, when you came, I was given a Mercedes to move around. I didn't want it. I wanted a simple car. So, consciously you try to cut down by not getting tempted by it.

You don't feel comfortable with status symbols?
I feel comfortable, definitely, but I think Mr Amitabh Bachchan will be more comfortable in a Mercedes than Manoj Bajpayee. Because he has the status of being a very big star. He can afford a Mercedes and I can afford a lesser car than that.

Is there reservation in Bollywood?
Mr Bachchan is from Allahabad and he is the superstar of all superstars. Prakash Jha is from Bihar, I am from Bihar and all of us have work and all of us are fairly well settled.

What are your views on reservation?
You can't have views on reservation. It is a constitutional truth today. The policy is fantastic and is for the upliftment of people who are socially and economically deprived. And they (the government) keep working on this policy all the time. And now, I think they have taken out the creamy layer and that was needed - people who have already benefitted shouldn't be included in this.

Is there reservation in any field that you don't agree with?
There shouldn't be any reservation at the National School of Drama. I was rejected four times by NSD. I wouldn't say it was because of reservation or any kind of quota system. You have talent coming from all over the country and they can't accommodate all of them, so I have a simpler solution - they should have 6-7 NSDs in the country.

Is it difficult to break into Bollywood when you are from a place like Bihar?
Not really. I used to be frustrated about it in my struggling days. When you start looking at the other point of view, you start calming down. How will a director gauge a person's ability by just looking at him? Or just by taking an audition? It's very difficult, but it is all the more important for newcomers to keep working. You never know what will get you the big job. My great moment was when Mahesh Bhatt found me from a series called "Swabhiman". He realised that I was capable of big things and he gave me a role in "Tamanna". And then Ram Gopal Varma saw me in "Tamanna" and "Bandit Queen" and he thought I was capable of being Bhiku Mhatre. That's how I got roles. My advice to all newcomers - keep doing as much as possible.

Who gave you that advice?
My circumstances were my teachers. I was alone, fighting my own battles, and there were a couple of friends of mine, who were also newcomers and we were supporting each other. It's a very lonely city when you don't have a job.

So does a struggler need a mentor?
No, you need someone who believes in you. When you get that person, it is such a relief. The stay in Bombay becomes very, very easy... Oh... the stay in Mumbai.

Action time for Chirag Paswan

Chirag Paswan who stars in Maverick Productions' upcoming film Mile Na Mile Hum had his first brush with the dangers of shooting action shots on a film set.

He had to free-fall into a shallow metal water tank. To give an authentic shot, Chirag did a free fall into the tank, but the trough turned out too shallow for his 6-foot frame, and he ended up getting badly scraped on his arm. Says the actor: "This is learning for me!

I felt it was a difficult shot, but I wanted to do it myself. I misjudged the depth of the water tank, and my arm got caught on one of the loose metal plates. It was a bit of a shock to see the blood in the water - nothing some bandages and a tetanus shot could not solve! I will surely be more careful in the future, though," laughs the actor. Adds producer Anuj Saxena, "It was an unfortunate situation, but luckily everything turned out fine and the song has come out fantastic!"

Don't give me undue credit: Pankaj Kapur

Pankaj Kapur is upset by recent reports that he composed the music of his son Shahid's next release, Mausam and comparisons with Raj Kapoor.

An angry Pankaj lashes out, "I am a first timer and have learnt from these legendary film makers. So to put me in the category of legends like Raj Kapoor is presumptious. All the credit for the music and lyrics goes to Pritam and Irshad respectively. I have just selected the final tunes which I feel are best suited to my film."

Why I love Janmashtami

Jammashtami is a very colourful festival and I am fascinated by the whole story behind it. I use to watch the entire Krishna janam on television. My mother had narrated the entire story to me when I was very small and from that time I use to always wait to watch the entire celebration on televison. The story was very interesting.

I remember waking up early in the morning to see the entire procession that followed before the handi was broken in our society. I loved watching the enthusiasm in people as they came and built a pyramid in matter of few seconds right before my eyes and the zest they brought along with them before breaking the handi.

Lord Krishna is believed to have been born during midnight amidst heavy rains around 5000 years back in Dwapur Yug. The festivity of Janmashtami reaches its peak at this time. During midnight, Lord Krishna is welcomed by blowing of Shankh (conch), arti performed by pujari (brahmins) of the temple. The temple echos with slogans like Jai Shri Krishna. Devotees shower flowers on the idol of Bhagwan Krishna. This is followed by the ceremony of giving holy bath to lord Krishna with Panchamrit - A mixture of gangajal, honey, sugar, ghee and curd. This mixture is later distributed as prasad' among the devotees. Cleaning of the Lord, is followed by offering food to him. While some temples offer what is known as Chappan bhog - an offering of 56 dishes to Lord Krishna, other temples offer as much as 108 dishes to Lord.

Rocking of Lord Krishna's cradle is another important ceremony of the midnight celebration that I remember. It is believed that anyone making a wish while rocking the cradle is granted it. Devotees pour in the temple from all over to welcome their beloved Bal Gopal. Birth of Lord Krishna takes place amidst singing of devotional songs in praise of the Lord. This continues for a period of 1-2 hours.

Even this time I wished I could see this entire process but I was busy shooting so I missed it, but I definitely wish to be a part of it next year!

Tusshar Kapoor to copy John Abraham!

Tusshar Kapoor is doing a John Abraham in theKya Kool Hai Hum sequel.

He is not only playing a character called John Albert but will also be seen sporting yellow trunks like John in his beach scene from Dostana. For this Tusshar will be hitting the gym to play the character. A source close to him says, "Tusshar was in splits when he heard about his John character in the film.

He loved Dostana and John's performance in it and will be working extra hard in making sure his body comes close to John's." When asked about yellow trunks scene Tusshar says, "John has one of the best bodies in the industry and it is going to be tough to emulate that. I hope after the film releases I'll have as huge a female fan following as he does." When told about Tusshar playing a tribute to him in KKHH 2 John says, "This is news to me. I am flattered to hear this. And I have complete faith in Ekta as a producer. I am doing Shootout In Wadala with her and I feel that would be something to look out for." As they say imitation in the biggest form of flattery.

Abhishek starts shooting for Bol Bachchan

Abhishek begins work with his childhood friendRohit Shetty once again after Zameen

Abhishek Bachchan is happy to work with one of his good friends Rohit Shetty for his next film titled 'Bol Bachchan' (BB). The actor has started shooting in Jaipur for the comic flick that also stars Ajay Devgn, Asin and Prachi Desai.

It can be recalled that Abhishek Bachchan was Rohit's first hero in his directorial debut 'Zameen'. Abhishek told us, "It feels like Rohit and I made Zameen just a few days ago..."

It is believed that Abhishek will be seen in the title role Bol Bachchan. Rohit Shetty started shooting this week in Jaipur. Reportedly, BB is a tribute to Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Gol Maal, and Abhishek's role is inspired by Amol Palekar's character.

Ranbir Kapoor shoots with dad

The father son duo will share screen space for the first time... read on to know more

There's some good news for Ranbir Kapoor andRishi Kapoor fans who want to see them together onscreen. The duo will be seen together soon.

However, if you thought that you would see them in a film, then you'll have to wait some more. But for the time being, they'll entertain you on the small screen as they get together for a television commercial.

According to an industry source Ranbir Kapoor is thrilled about the opportunity and is looking forward to sharing screen space with his father. If sources are to be believed it's a drink commercial, and Rishi and Ranbir have already started shooting for it.

Had the best dahi handi

This festival is close to me because it reminds me of my early days. I vividly remember the times when me and my friends would break a mock handi in my building, much to the amusement of our parents. The entire feel and fervor of the day used to make it so anticipated that we used to wait for it weeks in advance. This festival brings out an adventure freak in me; three years back who would have imagined me climb on the 5th tier of the human pyramid and break the handi myself.
On the auspicious occasion of Gokulashtami, humming ‘Nand ke anand Bhayo, Jai Kanhiya Lal Ki’ I started my journey for the promotional activity of my film ‘Shabri’. Co-incidentally, the character I play in the film is distinctly similar to Lord Krishna. Just like he was an avatar of Lord Vishnu, even my character’s avatar changes after a certain tragedy hits her.

Why Chitrangada Singh quit Krissh?

Why was Chitrangada Singh suddenly replaced by Jacqueline Fernandez in the mutant's role in " Krissh 3"? Though both the parties ascribe a problem of dates, there is more to this parting of ways than meets the eye.

"I can only say there were date issues...I tried to sort it out. Couldn't manage," Chitrangada maintained when contacted.

Rakesh Roshan said: "Actually I was to start the film in October and had taken the dates accordingly. But now I've shifted the film to December. Chitrangada tried her best to give us dates in December-January. But I think she has some family commitments. So she couldn't accommodate us. I had to opt for another actor."

But a source says that apparently Chitrangada was not comfortable with some of the requirements for the role.

"Initially Chitrangda was most excited about the mutant's role. She had begun to read up as much as possible on the subject and had even begun physical preparation. The clothes, makeup, body language and speech quality were all discussed. Chitrangda had even begun to train in martial arts and had taken off to the US to try accelerated freefall skydiving," said the source.

According to the source, it was certain scenes showing the mutant's transformation that made Chitrangda uncomfortable.

"Though the mutant's role is stupendous it does require the actress to get down to an elemental level of self-revelation. That's where the problem came in."

Jacqueline, who recently re-definied on-screen uninhibition for "Murder 2", has happily stepped into the mutant's part.

Karisma Kapoor in Bodyguard?

After the success of Dabangg and Ready, Salman Khan on a hat trick, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the success of his upcoming Eid release Bodyguard.

While his family, sister Alvira Khan and brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri, the producers of the film are busy promoting it, good friend Karisma Kapoor too has been doing her bit.

The actress, who will be making her Bollywood comeback soon, will recreate the Sallu-Lolo romance of the 90s in Bodyguard. She will be the voice of her sister Kareena, the lead actress ofBodyguard, even though in bits and parts.

A source revealed to Mumbai Mirror, "In the film, Salman Khan plays Kareena Kapoor's bodyguard.

Kareena, as a prank, calls up Salman. She obviously changes her voice when she makes those crank calls. This is where Karisma comes in. In those calls, it is Karisma's voice that you'll get to hear."

"While Karisma was the first choice for the voice over, the filmmakers changed their mind and wanted to go with Kareena's voice. However, Karisma's voice was used finally," said the source.

The source also added, "Karisma has always been a very close friend to Salman. He was very keen on having Karisma's voice in the film. Now that they have managed to pull it off, Salman is really thrilled."

Nargis Fakhri takes Ranbir Kapoor for a ride

Ranbir Kapoor had the fright of his life when he had to shoot a bike sequence with newbie Nargis Fakhri in Rockstar

Ranbir was required to ride pillion with Nargis. Since Nargis had never ridden one, Imtiaz asked his team to teach Nargis. To everyone's surprise, after just half an hour of practice, Nargis claimed that she was ready for the shot. Ranbir expressed his concern - wondering how Nargis could learn riding a bike in just 30 minutes.

However, once the shoot commenced, Ranbir realized that Nargis was indeed a fast learner and was handling the bike quite comfortably, he eventually relaxed and even enjoyed his short spin with Nargis. For a change, RK was taken for a ride!

I want to thank Salman Khan: Kareena Kapoor

Her detractors insist that Kareena Kapoor is "affected" by Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra. But Bebo says when it comes to signing a major actress, filmmakers still knock on her door first. Bebo at her fiery best...

Salman Khan says Meera in Bodyguard, that releases on August 31, is tailormade for you.
I want to thank Salman for giving me his most special film. I guess he said the role of Meera was tailormade for me because it is the first Salman Khan movie in which the actress has something to do. His movies are usually very action-packed, Salman-centric affairs. Bodyguard has a soul, and the girl is the soul of the film.

You guys had a blast in Patiala...
Yes, Alvira and Atul (Agnihotri), Salman and his friends know how to make a girl feel wanted. Salman had his cook with him, so he would ensure I got food that suited me.

When it comes to performance-oriented roles, you are still the No. 1 choice.
I feel special to know that when people think of a performance-oriented role, they want me for it. When you see Reliance Entertainment's Bodyguard, you will realise that the heroine's role is tough; one girl has to portray two characters. People will love my character.

What do you make of the constant comparisons to Kat and PC?
It doesn't matter to me at all.

So you are indebted to them for doing special appearances in Bodyguard and RA.One?
Honestly, it could be anyone in those guest appearances. It doesn't matter as it is not relevant to the story. I do movies where the story is of utmost importance.

My hubby's my enemy: Manisha Koirala

Manisha Koirala's marriage to Nepali businessmanSamrat Dahal is back in the news. Six months into the marriage, Manya announced on her social networking page that she was contemplating divorce from Dahal, seven years her junior, and hoped her parents wouldn't be angry.

She later deleted the post saying she had written it in a fit of anger, but the cracks in the marriage had appeared for all to see. Although she stressed that everything was fine with her marriage later, on Thursday the actress once again posted a message on her profile saying, "My husband has become my enemy... how much worst (sic) can it become for a women (sic)?"

We wonder if this message too will be retracted soon, or is the marriage over for good this time? Manisha was unavailable for comment.

Shabri: Movie Review

More than a decade back, when the contemporary underworld genre surfaced in Bollywood with cult films like Satya (1998) and Vaastav (1999), it had to its merit an unheard-of story and a realistic hard-hitting setup. Several spin-offs followed by the same filmmakers and their proteges and over the years, the underworld arena was exploited to such an extent that it left practically no scope for innovation. Shabri is an offshoot of the same recycled phenomena, having a been-there-seen-that effect.

Projected as a story of a woman gangster, Shabri isn't exactly an intricate underworld drama that traces the upsurge and downfall of its female protagonist. It is more of a basic revenge plot with an underworld backdrop. When his brother is unjustly killed in police custody, Shabri (Esha Koppikhar) kills the cop and goes absconding. An underworld bookie Murad (Raj Arjun) helps her go underground and in turn enrages his boss, the underworld head Rajdhar Bhau (Pradeep Rawat). When Rajdhar Bhau kills Murad, Shabri swears to seek revenge.

The film, delayed by more than half a decade, belongs to the era when the underworld genre had turned as much old as much as Ram Gopal Varma's obsession with it. Ramu's protege writer-director Lalit Marathegets the grammar of the genre as much correct as his mentor's better works. Everything from the pallid colour tone to the caustic editing patterns reminds of RGV of yore. The camera movements and sound effects were more poised and persuasive then.

Also Marathe's direction is more subtle and suggestive as he conveys more through the scene per se than using literal dialogue. Like RGV's common cold-blooded protagonists from Randeep Hooda's to Mohit Ahlawat's James , even Shabri is a woman of few words with ice in her veins. Content being an average flour-mill worker, circumstances force her to turn a gangster.

But the major limitation of the narrative is that it spans a very short period in the life of Shabri which ends with her induction into underworld. The only USP of this otherwise conventional underworld drama is the gender of its protagonist and it would have been more gratifying experience to see the functioning of the female form in a powerful position. But by the time Shabri gains authority, the film has already reached its end credits. On that note, the film fails to tap its prime potential.

Other than that the writing gets convoluted and confusing in the second half with the introduction of a scheming cop (Zakir Hussain). The viewer never gets to comprehend his clear intentions and his track doesn't contribute much to the story per se. The end, despite having a shock value, is too conveniently achieved. Also for an underworld action drama, the pacing is quite slow.

While Esha Koppikhar's performance can't be tagged as outstanding, it certainly is her most impactful act till date. With a hardboiled character that doesn't demand too much of dialogues, expressions or histrionics, it never goes wrong if the actor is able to maintain a dignified restrain in their act, and Esha succeeds in doing that. In a sari-clad avatar and a brazen look throughout, the girl known for her glamourous image, pulls off a divergently different character with poise. Raj Arjun is decent and Pradeep Rawat is sufficiently authoritative. Zakir Hussain gets repetitive in his erratic act.

Perhaps the late release of Shabri could benefit only one person. Apparently the last film of Esha Kopphikar; Shabri gives her credibility as a decent actress on a parting note.

Mom is the boss on the sets: Esha Deol

Esha Deol returns to films after a brief, self-imposed hiatus with Tell Me O Kkhuda, directed and produced by her mom, Hema Malini. The film is about a girl searching the world for her absentee father, releasing on 30 September.

You are returning to films after a while...
I wanted to take a break because I didn't like the roles coming my way. I was stuck in a rut. I wanted to have memorable experiences, so I travelled from London to USA. On returning, mama (Hema Malini) and I got into the scripting of Tell Me O Kkhuda, which took us eight months to finalise.

How was the experience working in your home production?
It was exciting and challenging. I sat in on every aspect of the making of the film, everyday. Over the next 10 years, I plan to get into filmmaking in a big way. This experience will stand me in good stead. I have learnt and grown a lot with TMOK.

What's Tell Me O Kkhuda about?
It's the journey of a girl Tanya, who travels in search of her father across Rajasthan, Goa andTurkey. It's about how my character meets different people from different cultures and touches their hearts. It's an emotional film that explores the special bond girls share with their fathers. Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna and dad (Dharmendra) are the three men I meet, one of whom is supposed to be my father.

How was it shooting with your father for the first time?
Mom was hesitant to approach papa for the role. I was scared but still asked him. He said, "Main sochta hoon." Three days later, he said he would do it. It was overwhelming! The night before the shoot, we both couldn't sleep a wink as we were too nervous and excited! We didn't use any glycerine while crying. We are cry babies. Mom was stoic as usual as she doesn't show what she feels.

How was it having your mom directing you?
It's been wonderful! She is a strict director and knows exactly what she wants and how to get it. Though she and I were very professional on the sets, we would often forget we were not at home and break into Tamil - a language the unit didn't understand... that became funny sometimes.

Who is the boss on the sets? Mom or dad?
Mom is the boss on the sets. She is very strict and papa and I both listen to her.
