DU boy turns director

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College alumnus Ajay Jainhad no clue that his calling lay in Bollywood till he met director Shekhar Kapur at an event in Delhi.

Ajay, a CA at the time, realized after the chance meeting that he just had to make movies, and the fact that Kapur too was a CA before he became a director only encouraged him.

Several years later, today, Ajay is getting set to direct his first movie based in Delhi. The 33-year-old says, "I've worked with Gulzar sa'ab on documentaries, short movies, etc, and have also worked on the film "Good Boy Bad Boy". But I wanted to tell my own story and I had to base it in Delhi." Ajay says Gulzar is his mentor, and tells us that he's also penning the lyrics for the film, besides being the creative supervisor.

Says Ajay, "It's a romantic story that travels from Jaipur and Mumbai to Delhi. We're shooting all over Delhi, including at Jama Masjid, Qutub Minar, Defence Colony, GK, South Ex, etc. We start in September. There's also a Holi song that will be shot in Delhi, and a qawwali at Jama Masjid."
