They came to Khimsar to shoot for Samir Karnik's movie "Char Din Ki Chandni" but in a turn of events, their visit proved to be much more than just that. Anupam Kher and Om Puri have already made their support for Anna Hazare more than evident.
So, when the local Gram Panchayat proposed the idea of organizing a rally, with the actors leading the way, to support Anna's anti-corruption movement, the veteran actors agreed. But looks like the local authorities did not agree, because the rally, that was to be organized yesterday, got cancelled in the wake of permission hassles.
A source informs, "On Monday night, the police notified the organisers and the actors that they need to take permission to address a public gathering of farmers in Khimsar. Since the actors had not taken permission, the rally had to be called off. Apparently, if the farmers plan to organize a rally, they need not take permission from the local administration, but when it involves actors, chaos ho jata hai, and to avoid that, the rally had to be called off."
Anupam, who is shooting in Khimsar told us, "We discussed the developments, and about the cancellation of the rally and realised that we can either fight our way through and address a public gathering in Rajasthan, or go the Anna way." He added, "The whole process of mass campaign has been done peacefully all over the country, and the idea is to keep the principle of non-violence on. The easiest thing is to get angry and had we, even without taking permission, decided to hold a rally, people would've participated. But we'd have peeved the local administration. So, we cancelled it."
Anupam does not end there. "Anna Hazare has started a historical movement. It took us 100 years to get independence and though it will take another 25 years to do away with corruption, this will be a great help to the future generation," he says.
