Kudos to people like Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal and all those who are fighting for the Lokpal bill, they have in true sense kept the term ‘democracy’ alive in our Country. My heart bleeds out for the poor 73 year old Anna Hazare, as he had to go on a hunger strike to put forth his admonition. We here, sitting in our UV protected glass houses call ourselves ‘The greatest democracy ever’, when half of us are not even aware of the Bill. For all those who aren’t aware about it, the Jan Lokpal bill was introduced in 1968 by Shanti Bhushan. It was first passed in Lok Sabha in 1969, but before it could be passed in Rajya Sabha, it was dissolved. The subsequent versions were re-introduced in the preceding years, but none of them passed. Today, because of the persistence of these freedom fighters(cause that is exactly what they are for me), the bill has gone to the second standing committee. This is the first step towards victory. Am glad we are finally getting up from our ‘chalta hai’ attitude and doing something concrete for our nation. For all those who still don’t care about what’s happening, wake up, feel the new India, free India.
