Anna Hazare: Hero of the nation!

Following in Mahatma Gandhi's footsteps, Anna Hazare's war against corruption is only getting bigger. Here's what people of India have to say...

Bipasha Basu, Actress
I condemn Anna's arrest. It's an undemocratic act. He is a Gandhian and his fight is for us. We, as a country, have tremendous potential but our main drawback is corruption at every level! One man who can inspire so many people for something good is put behind bars, while hooligans who vandalise public properties and sentiments for the most ridiculous reasons go untouched. Anna Hazare is a force to reckon with... we need many more like him.

Imran Khan, Actor
Corruption is a big issue and with Anna Hazare's campaign it has become a national talking point. What I am happy about is the participation of the youth in this entire campaign. We are a young nation and for any constructive change to happen, the youth needs to participate. Perhaps the single biggest achievement of this movement is the tremendous response it has drawn from this generation.

Pritish Nandy, Columnist
In India, no government has taken the public seriously till suddenly Anna came along, a tiny, frail man in whom thousands have seen a leader to take on their war against corruption. I think the only way out now is for the government to stop "playing government" and talk to the people and understand their frustrations. You can't play 'Big Guy' forever!

Luke Kenny, Actor and Musician
I support the intentions of Anna Hazare who is fighting against corruption that has been plaguing our country. Unfortunately, people who strive to do such things don't really get the government support and so I believe everybody should support the man.

Aditya Roy Kapoor, Actor
I don't know if Anna Hazare is violating the constitution or not. But he is surely looking out for a positive change. Whether the whole thing pans out or not is a different story altogether. But at least he's done his bit in awakening people.

Rahul daCunha, Theatre personality
Anna Hazare is a noble man but the key thing is unless the system changes no amount of fast is going to help.

Sahil Shroff, Model
The whole movement is fantastic and I support it. It's about time someone put their hands up and without worrying about the consequences. The country finally has someone to channel their emotions through.

Sunil Padwal, Artist
I am all for what Anna Hazare is doing, but I would have never endorsed it. But our country and government doesn't leave us with any option. We are tired of corruption and this had to happen some day or the other. But he, too, needs to understand that he cannot decide what is wrong and right.

Divya Palat, Theatre personality
Anna Hazare has come at a time when the people are totally fed up with the system. It's not just about him, but anyone who's willing to stand up against the system. Indians are done with scams, terrorism and poverty. No one is ever really punished and every week a new issue comes up.

Bharat Dabholkar, Adman
I believe the government is brain-dead for failing to sense the feelings of the people. I was on several debates for the Lok pal bill and I think it should be placed in Parliament and then it could be debated.

Terence Lewis, Choreographer
I support Anna Hazare in his campaign against corruption. In fact, I will also be performing to poetry that I've written and dance to sufi music this evening at Azad Maidan.
