Much has been spoken about Mahie Gill's smooching scenes and intimate acts in her next two films ' Not A Love Story ' and ' Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster '. In a no-holds-barred conversation with Gaurav Malani ,Mahie Gill opens up about her bold acts and says there is more to her role than the kissing scenes.
Your lip-locks in ' Not a Love Story ' and ' Saheb Biwi aur Gangster ' have become the talk of the town?
For both the films, I clearly knew about the kissing scenes well in advance because they were mentioned in the script. But the directors never emphasized on it because the kiss is not the selling point of the film. Both the films are strong on content.
Were you comfortable kissing on screen?
Of course I was nervous initially and it felt really awkward. But when you trust your directors to shoot the scenes aesthetically, things become kind of easier
In Sahib Biwi aur Gangster , the smooch scene was filmed towards the end of the shooting schedule. Since I knew Randeep Hooda pretty well by then, it was kind of easier to film that kissing sequence. But for Not A Love Story , I had to shoot for the kissing scene with Deepak Dobriyal on the very first day of the shoot so I was very nervous. But at the end of the day, I realized that kissing is just like any other emotion.
Apparently RGV was quite embarrassed and even apologized...
Well, he didn't go on saying sorry sorry, as reported. But it was really sweet of him. Ram Gopal Varma is a very shy person and because he hadn't shot a smooching scene in his earlier films, he was quite nervous about it. Moreover it was the first day of the shoot and, to make things worse, we had to do several retakes to film the scene from different cameras and different angles. So he was feeling kind of awkward to ask me to kiss again and again.
How did your family react to your intimate scenes?
It was very funny. I have two brothers and the one who is in California was quite cool about it. But my mother was scandalized and wondered what kind of films I had got myself into. For her, the girl who once wanted to do PHD was now kissing in films
Are the continual stories about your bold acts somewhere overpowering the emotional intensity of the film?
Absolutely! When you watch the film, you will realize that the kissing scenes are just a part of the film and not added for the heck of it. Kuch ajeeb ya gandha nahi lagega !
How much of 'Not A Love Story' is fact and how much is fiction?
It is not based on a true incident. It is just inspired by a true incident. Of course the characters are modeled around the real life characters of Maria and Jerome. But their names are different in the film. It was an incident where a couple was involved in murdering a man. Nobody knows what exactly happened behind closed doors. So we have our own interpretation to the story.
Did you ever try to meet Maria Susiaraj?
Earlier I did wish to meet Maria to understand the character better and adapt to her body language. But then I thought, as an actor, I should have my own interpretation to the character. Coming from a non-filmi background, even I had to struggle in my initial days and so I could relate with the character of Maria.
To what extent do you relate to Maria Susairaj in real life?
Only to the extent that even I had to struggle in my initial days. Not beyond that!
What was the most difficult part of the acting in 'Not a Love Story'?
Not a Love Story is perhaps the most difficult film I have done so far. We were shooting in the same building where the incident happened. We were shooting with FSD cameras all around me. There was blood lying on the floor and on my costumes in which we were shooting for 3-4 days.
Was it creepy to shoot in the same building where the crime actually happened?
You bet! The actual incident happened in apartment number 201 and we were shooting in 1501 which is right above 201. From the moment I saw Dheeraj Residency building, it was an eerie feeling.
Can we say you are RGV's next muse after Urmila and Antra Mali?
That is something you have to ask Ram Gopal Varma.
Finally are you doing Dabanng 2?
No, I have not been offered that film.
